The Human Development Index (HDI) is a composite measure of the average achievement of nations in key dimensions of human development: life expectancy, education and income per capita. The HDI is the geometric mean of normalised indices for each of the three dimensions, and is published annually by the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme).
