Undernutrition, or undernourishment is defined as the outcome of insufficient food intake and repeated infectious diseases. It includes being underweight and/or too short for one’s age (stunted), dangerously thin for one’s height (wasted) and deficient in vitamins and minerals (micronutrient malnutrition). Undernutrition puts children at greater risk of dying from common infections, increases the frequency and severity of such infections, and contributes to delayed recovery. The data is published annually by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
