The data shown is the amount of waste production measured at municipality level in the form of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), known as ‘trash’ or ‘garbage’ for most people. It is measured in the amount of tonnes per day.Naturally, a large population will correlate with a high waste generation. Therefore, also check the indicator Waste Generation per capita. A high Total Waste Generation has a negative effect on the environment, especially when the waste is not recycled properly.
